The Government of Navarra, the University and the European Commission present the main measures envisaged by the EU to promote the European Green Pact.

Councilor Ana Ollo has defended the cooperation between institutions and citizenship in a workshop held at the academic center.

The Councilor for Citizen Relations, Ana Ollo, has defended the cooperation between institutions and citizenship during the opening of an event on the European Green Pact held at the University of Navarra. Organized by the European Commission, the Government of Navarra, through its center'Europe Direct', and the University, the meeting has also counted with the participation of the director general of External Action, Sergio Perez. The program of the workshop has also included three parallel sessions in which participants have been able to discuss sustainable consumption, industry, circular Economics and biodiversity.

Councilor Ollo stressed the need for "courageous public policies, to contribute from our region to make Europe a climate-neutral continent and thus align ourselves with the Commission's great commitment: the European Green Pact". He also called for "working together, institutions, companies, universities and civil society to make this happen, because we want a more innovative, European and green Navarra".

Ollo, who recalled that "we should not take the Welfare State for granted", stressed that "we have a youth committed and interested in the challenges that, from Europe, but also from Navarre, we face. Challenges such as the one that unites us today: the ecological transition".

The workshop brought together more than one hundred participants and was attended by Ana Río Quintana, on behalf of the European Commission, and Álvaro Balibrea, General Manager of the University of Navarra. "The goal of the European Green Pact, a package of measures promoted by the European Commission, is to put the EU on the path towards a green transition with the ultimate goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The University of Navarra shares these interests. Through the objectives set out in the 2025 Strategy 'University and Sustainability', it intends to contribute to providing solutions to the challenges facing our societies through its research, professor, assistance and innovation work," Balibrea emphasized.

In this context, the General Manager of the University of Navarra has presented the future BIOMA Centeras "a new space where the research multidisciplinary and applied Biodiversity and Environment, the training of the students and the knowledge dissemination of Science are at the service of the common good".

In order to help repair the economic and social damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the European Commission has proposed "Next Generation EU", a €750 billion recovery plan. This plan, together with the EU's long-term budget deadline , aims to goal build a greener, more inclusive, digital and sustainable Europe. Through the European Green Pact, the European Commission is precisely presenting an ambitious package of measures that should enable European businesses and citizens to benefit from a sustainable ecological transition and make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
