The proposal of the alumni of the School of Architecture Javier Antón and Álvaro Velasco has been chosen as topic of one of the 7 units of academic staff that will compose the Summer Course of the Architectural Associationof London this year.

Under the degree scroll "London Time", from July 4 to 23, will be held the Summer Course that every year organizes the AA, and that this time will be attended by two alumni of the School, Javier Antón, professor at the School, and Álvaro Velasco, who is doing his doctoral thesis in the AA in London. The architects will be in charge of teaching one of the 7 modules of this summer course, which in this edition focuses on a reflection on London and Time.

The proposal "The (new) monument: Patchworking entropies", has three temporal moments: the year 1666, the year of the Great Fire of London, the year 2016, the 350th anniversary of the catastrophe, and the year 2366. "We want the students to translate the London represented in literature, cinema, music, projected in 2366, before an imminent new state of ignition, a 'new' Great Fire, which is about to arrive", says Professor Antón. "To this end, the study will be developed in two phases: in the first we will represent the city in 2366, through the recreation of atmospheres drawn from the cultural imaginary of London. Just as 'The Monument' symbolizes the Great Fire and remains as a reminder of a catastrophe that devastated the city of London, 'The (New) Monument' would materialize the entropic and negative visions that have predominated in the fictional representation of the city," he explains.

The work that the students will develop in the second phase, will have a "deconstructivist" character, which will consist of the staging of the day of the "new" Great Fire: "an event with the destruction of the '(New) Monument' an apocalyptic action of burning the elaborate model conceived as a patchwork of the different proposals of the students", adds Velasco.

The School's student, Cristina Asla, will be one of the 90 students from all over the world who will participate in this edition of the Summer Course.
