Clara Purroy finished her programs of study in Architecture at the School of the University of Navarra in 2016. Four years later, the Ministry of Education and training Professional has ruled the awards that recognize the most brilliant records of the course 15-16, among which Clara's is included as one of the first prizes in the area of Engineering and Architecture.

Very happy with the award (which has a cash prize of 3,300 €), Clara also recognizes that she already feels it as something "a little distant": "It's been 10 years since I started the degree program... However, it has been the perfect excuse to remember anecdotes, joys and sorrows with the people who were co-protagonists and fundamental support in the university years; and who are, after all, what you take with you".

Clara is currently pursuing a Master in Business Administration at MIT Sloan (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) thanks to scholarships from La Caixa, Fullbright and Rafael del Pino. "It's something I've wanted to do for years to complement my training at management and business, which I never had as an architect and which I had to learn the hard way at McKinsey and Amazon". "Plus," she adds, "MIT Sloan is very focused on entrepreneurship and specifically social entrepreneurship, which I am very interested in exploring."

During the degree program Clara already did an internship at consultancy service strategic at McKinsey, where she worked as an analyst for two "very intense" years. She then moved to Amazon, to take charge, together with three other people, of the launch of Amazon Business in Spain (first in Madrid and then in Bratislava. "In Vienna, I experienced confinement. Back in Madrid, I was able to combine work with teaching as a teacher in the Master in Management at high school of business, something I had always wanted to do, since I love teaching". And that she will be able to continue at MIT "as a teaching assistant" next year.

Not following "the established path

Already during the degree program Clara realized that she did not have to follow "the established path for having studied architecture, but that I could, wanted and should explore what made sense to me. That's why I jumped to the strategic consultancy service , e-commerce, NGOs or teaching". She also recognizes that these decisions "have been questioned because 'you are an architect, what are you doing doing doing that? But she, "with a lot of effort" has tried to seek unconventional paths that she is passionate about: "Unafraid to explore and take risks, regardless of what is established or what others expect. Right now, in fact, I don't know what I'm going to do after the MBA and I feel very comfortable like this."

Among the exciting challenges that he has never set aside, he remains Building Their FutureHe was born as my project end of degree program/Master's Degree. Then, with several friends, we founded the NGO to develop the project to build an elementary school in Nairobi".

Since that 2016 the project has continued to grow: "We went back to Kenya to build new educational pavilions, we collaborated with a group of Nursing and Teaching students who did summer internships at high school, etc.". Until the pandemic hit. "In March 2020 we had to cancel a wonderful project to build a boarding school for street children in Nairobi. We hope to resume it soon and spend, once again, a summer of solidarity building in Kenya. It has been a challenge to combine Building Their Future with the work - especially during the years at McKinsey - but it is a project too important and beautiful to pass up, and we always end up finding time and resources.", culminates the alumna of the School of Architecture.
