Rotterdam University of the Netherlands, winner of the University of Navarra Case Competition

Students from 16 universities in 11 countries took part in the 7th edition of the competition.

A team from the University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands won first place in the UNICC case competition. businessUniversity of Navarra International Case Competition (UNICC). A total of 64 students from 16 universities in 11 countries took part, from 25 to 27 March, in the 7th edition of this competition, the only one of its kind among Spanish universities, organised by students from the University of Navarra. Over the course of six days, the participants of the Case Competition tried to solve, as professional consultants, real problems in different companies and presented their solutions to a jury made up of professionals from the companies themselves and from renowned consultancy firms.

The students, divided into 16 teams, took part in the 24-hour final round that took place at the Hotel Tres Reyes in Pamplona and at the University's Amigos Building, in which they solved a case on the business strategy of the multinational Mondelēz. The team from the University of Rotterdam in the Netherlands won first place at test, second place went to Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, and third place to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.

Daniel Baak of the winning team said that "participating in this competition taught us how to work as a team. At the beginning we tried to put ourselves above each other, but then we realised that the important thing was to look for synergies. On awardhe added: "We are very happy. We are the first team from the Netherlands to win an international case competition. We are a small university playing in the big leagues, so for us it is an honour to have achieved gold. I think the core topicof success is to solve the long case with the same mentality as we solved the short cases in the previous days".

For his part, the head of sales at Mondelēz Iberia and protagonist of the case of the final, Israel Sancho, believes that the new generations are changing the employment paradigm. "I am very surprised by the high level of these young people, they have a set of skills that will allow them to go far". As for the winners, he said: "When we asked ourselves the question of who we would hire, that's when it really became clear that groupfrom Rotterdam was the winner. It took Mondelēz more than three months to get to result, which these guys have achieved in less than 24 hours.

As well as competing as professional consultants, the teams from Australia, Canada, Guatemala, Holland, Ireland, Lebanon, Mexico, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with a groupfrom Spain, were able to get to know the gastronomy and culture of Navarre.
