University of Navarra students receive awards at the V Scientific meeting of Spanish Olympians

Students from Chemistry and Biochemistry and Medical students were awarded in the junior and senior categories of the competition

Students from the University of Navarra were awarded in the V Scientific meeting of Spanish Biology Olympians held in León from March 12 to 16. Specifically, the competition recognized in the junior category the work "Shannon entropy descent in evolving genes" carried out by Ignacio Larrea (2nd of Chemistry and Biochemistry ), the Pamplona student Iranzu Viguria (2nd of Medicine) and Teresa Zumarraga (2nd of Medicine). Also winning in the senior category was the discussion paper project by Pablo Rivera (6th year of Medicine), José María Lopesino (6th year of Medicine) and Maximiliam Schneider (4th year of Medicine) entitled"Vaccine against glioblastoma multiforme: a well-founded hope?Clínica Universidad de Navarra.

As one of them, Pablo Rivera, explained, "participating in this event is an opportunity to pursue our research vocation, each in our own field. But above all, it is very inspiring to see students organizing a high-level scientific congress . The great initiative and desire to do things well that they transmit is contagious for all of us who are starting to show our heads in the scientific world".

The event brought together former champions of the regional and national phases of the Spanish Biology Olympiad. The winners will have the opportunity to participate with all expenses paid in the congress of the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the case of the winners in the junior category; and in the congress of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience for the senior category.
