Experts from universities in Spain, Italy, the U.S. and Chile will participate from May 2 to 4 in the VIII International congress of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, which in this edition deals with 'Architectural magazines (1900-1975): chronicles, manifestos, propaganda'.

The program will begin on May 2 with the opening of the exhibition 'WERK 6/62. A history of Spain' at entrance hall of the School of Architecture. The sample focuses on the monographic issue that the Swiss magazine dedicated 50 years ago to Spanish architecture and art, which brought international recognition and a boost to Spanish architecture and art. The reprint of that issue will also be presented, with the collaboration of architect César Ortiz Echagüe, who sent the material to the publication for the monograph.

In the prolegomena of congress , the I award International Javier Carvajal Architecture Award will be presented that day to architect, historian and architecture critic Kenneth Frampton, Professor Emeritus at Columbia University (USA). The board of trustees of the award is made up of the School of Architecture of the campus, the School of Architecture of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM), the committee Superior de Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE) and the Fundación Arquitectura y Sociedad.

Las revistas y la génesis de la arquitectura moderna
Two sections are proposed in the congress . The workshop on May 3 will address the topic of 'Magazines and the genesis of modern architecture'. It will be devoted to the study of the concept of architectural journal, its mission statement and objectives, its contents -both actual and desirable or intended-, its character -artistic, aesthetic, reflexive-conceptual or technical-, its authority and its documentary value.

Beatriz Colomina, from Princeton University; Horacio E. Torrent, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; framework Mulazzani, from I.U.A. Venezia; and Maristella Casciato, from the University of Bologna. Professors Juan M. Otxotorena, Carlos Labarta and Rubén Alcolea will speak on behalf of the School.

The second section will take place on May 4 and will deal with 'Spanish architecture and magazines'. It aims to collect the programs of study and research on the role that magazines played in the years of genesis of modern Spanish architecture as a means of training and information for architects and as a channel for the dissemination of their ideas and works, the international approval of their work and the consolidation and affirmation of their convictions.

The speakers will be Víctor Pérez Escolano, from the University of Seville, Antonio Pizza, from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and José Manuel Pozo, from School of Architecture of the University of Navarra. The closing session will be held at position by Mark Wigley, Dean of the School of Architecture of Columbia University.
