Students from IES Sarriguren, La Anunciata in Tudela, and IES Benjamín in Tudela will represent Navarre in the national statistics competition

Students from secondary school, high school diploma training participated in the Navarre regional finals of the “AVATAR: Discovering Statistics in the Land of datacompetition, held at the University of Navarra. The teams from IES Sarriguren, La Anunciata de Tudela, and IES Benjamín de Tudela were the winners and will represent the region in the national round, to be held in Gran Canaria from June 25 to 27.
In the first category (7th and 8th grades), the winners were Nahia Arbizu Arriola, Eider Oteiza Furtado, Nerea Oteiza Furtado, and Alaia Pagola Ekiza, from high school Sarriguren BHI high school , with their project "LOA: Women, Science, and Technology." The team analyzed how factors such as cell phone use, diet, and physical activity directly impact sleep and academic performance.
In the second category, for 9th graders and Sophomore high school students, the award to Hugo Munárriz Aguirre, Goodness Edobor, Julen Escalada Miranda, and Adrián Burgaleta Rodríguez from high school Anunciata high school in Tudela. The students presented the work Do Neurons Dance to the Beat of Music?” on the impact of musical genres on concentration. Their study concluded that classical music promotes concentration compared to other genres played at high Issue.
Finally, Noa Idiazábal Delgado, from IES Benjamín de Tudela, won in the high school diploma Degree high school diploma Degree category with her work Maximum Speed on Banked Curves, work in which she applied physics and mathematics to real-world road safety scenarios.
Encouraging interest in science
The competition, whose goal foster interest in statistics and scientific careers among middle high school diploma training students, received a total of 44 project submissions in its first phase. At the workshop , two projects were selected from each category and presented to the jury. The event brought together nearly 70 attendees, including participants, faculty, families, and jury members, who highlighted the interest and quality of the projects presented.
The initiative is led by the Institute of data Science data Artificial Intelligence (DATAI), the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), and Nastat, in partnership National Institute of Statistics, the department Education Government of Navarra, and the Navarran Society of Mathematics Teachers “TORNAMIRA.” It also has the support of Sendaviva and Casio.
The jury was composed of José Antonio Moler (Public University of Navarra and Tornamira), Arkaitz Galbete Jiménez (Public University of Navarra), Sandra Eraso Moreno (Nastat), César Benjamín Berrade Ursua (National Institute of Statistics), and Aitor Oviedo Madrid (DATAI).
