Institute for Culture and Society: participation in activities at other centers and universities (July and August 2017)

Researchers and collaborators participated in activities in Canada, Cameroon, Chile, USA, Spain, Estonia, Israel, Peru, Poland and the UK.

Emotional culture and identity
Mariano Crespo
gave four lectures, one seminar and one course in the USA and Chile:

-'The Husserlian Sources of Emotive Consciousness in Dietrich von Hildebrand's Moral Philosophy' at the inaugural seminar of the Dietrich von Hildebrand Student Circle, organized by the Hildebrand Legacy Project at Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio, USA, 09-13/07/2017).

-'On the feeling of value in Edith Stein' at the Symposium 'Ethics and Philosophy of being' of the School of Theology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Chile, 08/08/2017).

-'The Phenomenological Turn in Theology' and 'Phenomenological Perspectives of the Human Person' on the framework of the doctorate program at Philosophy, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. (Chile, 11/08/2017).

-The seminar 'El sentimiento como fundamento de la voluntad?' at the Institute of Philosophy of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the course 'Introducción a la ética de Husserl' at School of Theology. (Chile, 16-18/08/2017).

Alejandro GarciaAlejandro Garcia taught a course at postgraduate program in the Master's Degree in management Cultural of the University of Piura. It was entitled 'Critical analysis of sociology of culture'. (Lima, Peru, 19-22/07/2017).

presented three papers:

-'Populist discourse across the political spectrum in Belgium: towards a scaled understanding of populist varieties' at the 15th IPrA Conference at the University of Ulster Jordanstown (Northern Ireland, UK, 20/07/2017).

-'Metapolitical de-legitimization strategies of labor unions and their right to strike in Belgium' and 'Articulations of self and politics in activist discourse: a framework for the analysis of evolving political logics and critical subjectivities' at the IPA 17th Conference at Montfort University (Leicester, UK, 06/07/2017).

Ruth BreezeRuth Breeze presented two papers:

-'Watching the gathering storm: the EU seen through party manifestos 2010-2015' at the session 'Which EU is the UK Brexiting from?' at the 24th International Conference of Europeanists, at the University of Glasgow (UK, 12-14/07/2017).

-'Anti-politics politics? The anti-politics discourses of UKIP, AfD and Podemos' in the session 'staff and collective identities in populist discourse' at the 15th International Pragmatics Conference. (Northern Ireland, UK, 16-21/07/2017).

Adriana GordejuelaAdriana Gordejuela presented the paper 'Joint attention in the construction of film flashbacks' at the 14th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference (Tartu, Estonia, 10-14/07/2017).

 

Dámaso Izquierdo carried out a research stay at the ESRC Centre for Corpus Approaches to Social Science (CASS), Lancaster University (UK, 01/07/2017-14/8/2017). He also presented two communications at conferences:

-'Shedding light on the relationship between indirect evidentiality and mitigation: a reanalysis of the so-called markers of general or unspecified indirect evidence' at the 15th International Pragmatics Conference (Belfast, UK, 16-21 /07/2017).

-'Is a CADS approach useful to empirically measure populism? A comparative analysis of the representation of the French "peuple" and their threats in the discourse of the major political parties in France' at the 9th International Corpus Linguistics Conference, held at the University of Birmingham (UK, 24-28/07/2017).

Creativity and Cultural Heritage
Anna DulskaAnna Dulska
presented the communication 'The Other Jews: The Middle-Eastern Diaspora in Sephardic and Ashkenazi Travel Accounts' at the Leeds International Medieval Congress 'The Otherness', at the University of Leeds. (UK, 03-06/07/2017). She also participated in the XLIV Week of programs of study Medieval Estella, entitled 'Countryside and city: worlds in tension (12th-15th centuries)', with the communication 'Between the village and the countryside. The Order of St. John, the artisans of Pamplona and the surrounding land (XIV/XV centuries).'. (Estella, Navarra, 18-21/07/2017).

y Mikel Ostiz attended the Summer Course 'Humans and Inhumans: What unites and differentiates us from other animal species', organized by the Tatiana Pérez de Guzmán El Bueno Foundation. Murillo gave the session 'knowledge human and knowledge animal'. (Avila, 13-14/07/2017).

José Víctor Orón carried out several activities:

-Presented UpToYou at a congress organized by Philosophy for Children (Madrid, 28/06/2017-01/07/2017) and at a congress organized by Scholas Occurrentes at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel, 02-05/07/2017). He also offered a training of the program in Bamenda City (Cameroon, 08/22/2017-10/09/2017).

-She completed a short stay at the University of Reading to work on a book and lay the instructions for a future agreement. (UK, 07-23/07/2017).

attended the summer course 'Education patient-centered medical course, organized by the Lilly Foundation in El Escorial (Madrid, 03/07/2017).

 

 

Religion and Civil Society
Montserrat Herrero
participated in the congress 'Liturgy and Politics in the Middle Ages: An Overlooked Legacy of Ernst H. Kantorowicz', held at Adam Mickiewicz University, with the communication 'Acclamation: A Theological-political Locus. Theoretical Reflections on Kantorowicz's Laudes Regiae' (Poznan, Poland, 13-14/07/2017).

Statistics Unit

Jesús López Fidalgo was involved in a number of activities:

-Was plenary speaker at the IV congress of Young Researchers in design of Experiments and Biostatistics. (Salamanca, 20-21/07/2017).

-Gave a talk at the workshop '17w5007 - Latest Advances in the Theory and Applications of Design and Analysis of Experiments', organized by Banff International Research Station (BIRS). (Canada, 06/11/08/08/2017).

-Performed a research stay at the University of Manitoba (Canada) with Prof. Saumen Mandal and delivered the seminar 'Bayesian Optimal Experimental Designs' (Canada, 11-16/08/2017).
