María Victoria Navarta Sánchez, professor at School of Nursing at the University of Navarra, has been awarded at the XXIV Annual congress of the Spanish Society of Neurological Nursing (SEDENE), held recently in Valencia. Specifically Navarta has received the First award for the best oral communication, entitled ReNACE psychoeducational intervention for people with Parkinson's disease and their family caregivers: preliminary results of baseline measurement.
"I have presented the preliminary results we have obtained in a quasi-experimental study", says Navarta, "that we are conducting to evaluate a psychoeducational intervention aimed at improving the quality of life of people with Parkinson's disease and their family caregivers". The project presented is focused on improving the social and health care received by people with Parkinson's disease and their family caregivers, "a previous study identified the need to improve the monitoring and support received by this population".
This study is part of one of the areas of research of the School Nursing called Chronic processes and end-of-life care.
research ReNACE ProgramThe research ReNACE Program (Recovery, Normalization, Acceptance and Coexistence with Illness) began seven years ago with the intention of "emphasizing its person-centeredapproach and all that living with a chronic illness entails. It is very difficult to define briefly what it means to live with a chronic illness, because it encompasses many aspects of the person's physical, social, psychological and spiritual area " clarifies the professor. They focused on some aspects that emphasize the attitude of the person to improve their state of health with a chronic disease.
Previous research carried out in this Program has been the basis for the design of this psychoeducational intervention multidisciplinary, which is being carried out in six Primary Care Centers of the Navarra Health Service-Osasunbidea: "The fact that different disciplines are participating in this project has allowed us to have a very interesting integral approach to better respond to the needs of this population. Specifically, the intervention is developed by a team of professionals from Nursing, Neurology, Medicine, Psychology, Sociology and work Social" adds Navarta.
Finally, Navarta considers that this psychoeducational intervention "could help social-health professionals to better accompany families living with a chronic disease, and therefore, to have a better state of health and well-being".
