"The current social perception of what the family is is a far cry from what it was just a few decades ago and the Law cannot remain on the sidelines of this evolution". So says the professor of Civil Law of the University of Navarra, Javier Nanclares, director of the new Master's Degree online specialization in Family Law that the academic center will promote the next academic year 2023-24. Nanclares stresses the current need for legal professionals who are experts in the resolution of marital crises, in the protection of the best interests of the child, in the fight against gender and domestic violence and in the critical evaluation of public policies in subject family. In addition, changes in society also require more and more experts in dealing with family law matters from an international perspective (couples composed of people of different nationalities).

"The regulation of family institutions must be sensitive to the demands of society, but without being at the mercy of social fashions. Not every relationship is marriage, nor every cohabitation is family, even if they constitute forms of exercise of freedom staff and manifestations of individual will. Not every factual status must necessarily be goal of guardianship. From there, a coherent legal regulation is necessary and that projects this coherence in subject civil, procedural, penal, fiscal, etc., as well as in the execution of public policies", adds Javier Nanclares. In this sense, in his opinion, the eventual approval of what is now the Draft Bill on Families clearly shows the need for qualified professionals in the field of Family Law, capable of applying and critically examining increasingly complex regulations.

According to the data of the committee General of the Judiciary corresponding to 2021, the cases resolved in the Family Courts totaled 189,835. On the other hand, the total number of annulments, separations and divorces in Spain amounted to 90,582; in addition, the Courts of Violence against Women handled another 25,745 measures.
