purpose Researchers from the University of Navarra Daniel Moulin, Apolinar Varela and Juan Pablo Dabdoub visited different general secondary schools belonging to the Unidad de Servicios para la Education Básica en el Estado de Querétaro (USEBEQ), with the purpose of sharing their experiences in the field of values and school coexistence with students, teachers and parents of these schools.
The team belongs to project 'Investigate and promote the Education of character in secondary schools in Latin America', funded by Templeton World Charity Foundation. This is a joint initiative of the School of Education and Psychology and the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). It is led by Professor Concepción Naval.
The experts pointed out that "forging a child's personality and character with values benefits society in every way. A disciplined, honest, fair, fair, manager and compassionate child will have a better academic performance and a better school coexistence. We must work in this direction".
In this sense, they advocated the role of the school as an element of social transformation, where the Education is more than just imparting content. From agreement with them, the true growth as a person goes through the development of ethical and moral virtues that allow their integration in a society capable of living together in peace and harmony.
Involvement of parents and teachersThey stressed that in contemporary societies the commitment in Education must be shared: the teacher requires the full support of the family. Along these lines, they pointed out that children and young people need attention, time and to be listened to. Therefore, they indicated that it is very important for parents to spend time with their children.
"We see in the teachers of Querétaro a great commitment to the children in the Education in values beyond the school context. Today more than ever we need parents to be aware of all the effort that is made in schools. It is time for them to face the reality of their own children, the one they live at home and reflect at school so they can see what their children are like."
Finally, they stated that students face great challenges outside the classroom and perhaps the school is a small refuge for them, where they find as allies teachers with a lot of dedication and a great vocation. "The Education is necessary to change society," they concluded.
