Last July, the International Biology Olympiad was held in Taiwan for students from high school diploma who had previously won in the national competitions. Iosune Baraibar Argota, a 5th year Medicine student at the University of Navarra, participated in the organization of the event.
"I was part of the jury of the Spanish delegation and our task was twofold: on the one hand, to review each question of the practical and theoretical exams to check that they were correct and that they were appropriate to the required level, and on the other hand, to translate the questions from English to Spanish", Baraibar highlights his experience.
The medical student was able to meet professors and researchers from all areas of biology: botany, zoology and health. "I am doing the pathway of research Biomedicine of the School of Medicine, so, although the experience can be especially enriching for students of the School of Sciences, as a student of research it was also very useful for me. I was able to meet scientists from all over the world who work at other research centers at reference letter," she says.
On this occasion, Baraibar was able to see the "competition" from the other side of the barrier, since in 2007 he participated in the regional and national phases, which were held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. "I have very good memories of that experience, because in addition to getting his goal, it allowed me to make great friends, many of whom are also studying Medicine or other Health Sciences careers," he stresses.
