The team of students from high school diploma which was formed at the University of Navarra for the Iberoamerican Biology Olympiad has won two silver medals and one bronze medal at the international meeting , which has just been held in Costa Rica.

Among them is Miguel Nuño from Pamplona, former student of high school San Ignacio de Pamplona and student of 1st year of Medicine, who has won a bronze medal. Pablo Montañés and Bartolomeu Ramis won silver medals.

The three, along with five other students who won the national phase of the Biology Olympiad, received an intensive training at the School de Ciencias and the research center Médica Aplicada (CIMA), aimed at preparing them for the international and Ibero-American phases of the Olympiad.

With this goal the two centers designed a program with a scientific tutor for student. Along with this figure, students worked in the mornings in different areas of CIMA. Likewise, in the School of Sciences they carried out, among other activities, Microbiology practices focused on Immunology, culture analysis, Gram staining, recognition of bacterial populations, etc.

In the opinion of the OIB president, José Luis Barba, the results obtained, both in the Ibero-American phase and in the international phase -which took place last May in Taiwan and in which the Spanish team won three more medals-, have been achieved thanks to the work of the centers and the preparatory week at the University of Navarra.
