More than a hundred people participated on Thursday, October 25, in the workshop 'Marxism and Christianity' organized by the department of Systematic Theology of the University of Navarra, on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx.

It began at 10.30 a.m. and was structured in three conferences, given by Professor Juan Luis Lorda, from the School of Theology, "Marxism as Christian heresy"; by Professor Pablo Pérez, from the School of Philosophy and Letters, "Marxism as challenge and temptation of the Church"; and by Professor Onésimo Díaz, also from the School of Theology, "Marxism as persecution of the Church".

During the meeting, the participants were offered a vision of the impact that Marxism has had on the life of the Catholic Church. Following the early suggestions of the Russian philosopher Nicolai Berdiaev, Professor Juan Luis Lorda showed how Marxism occupied the space of faith and religious hope in many people, animated by a messianic spirit B , only materialistic and intraterrestrial. Professor Pablo Perez told the genesis of the Marxist influence in the world and its immense propaganda work , which also reached many Christians, and the different and oscillating political and cultural strategies of criticism, recruitment and political partnership between Christians and communists. Professor Onésimo Díaz traced a panorama of the historical persecutions provoked throughout the world by the accession to power of communist regimes.
