The work brings together a selection of painted votive offerings currently preserved in Navarre: specifically, in Estella, Corella, Cintruénigo, Sangüesa, Labiano, Caparroso, Luquin, Lerín, Codés, Cascante, Arguedas, Puente la Reina, Arróniz, Pitillas and Musquilda. "This group of pieces, included in what we know as sumptuary and popular arts, constitute very important materials for the reconstruction of history, human behavior, mentalities, religiosity and secular traditions", explains the author.

Thus, grouped around devotions and sanctuaries, general considerations are made about their use and function, and each piece is analyzed with a prosopographical study of its protagonists. "The way in which the paintings have been documented has brought to light family histories, in some cases novel stories, professional history, as well as numerous details about the groups to which those portrayed in the paintings belonged," explains Professor Fernández Gracia.
