Mariana Serres and Carlos Luri, graduates of the School of Sciences, recognized in the extraordinary Degree awards of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Mariana Serres Gómez, graduate in Biochemistry ) has obtained the first award in her category and Carlos Luri Rey, graduate in Biology (2019) and Master's Degree in Biomedical research (2021), has obtained a second award. Along with them, three other former students of Tecnun-School of Engineering have obtained different awards in their categories.
Mariana Serres Gómez, born in Madrid, is currently working as a specialist in Clinical Analysis at the Hospital Universitario La Paz, in the Specific Laboratories Section, focused on endocrinology and renal lithiasis. During her residency program at the same hospital, she spent three months at the Metabolopathies laboratory (Biochemical Genetics Laboratory) of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota (USA), an experience that allowed her to deepen and specialize in this area of clinical laboratory .
For Mariana "this award is a recognition of the effort and dedication during the years of university training , a stage that I lived with great enthusiasm and from which I keep very valuable experiences". Mariana remembers all those people (family, friends, colleagues and professors) who accompanied and helped her during her university years: "the University facilitated and supported my access to international opportunities, spending two months at King's College London and a year of Erasmus at the University of Geneva, experiences that broadened my knowledge and professional skills", she concludes.
On the other hand, Carlos Luri Rey is a native of San Adrián (Navarra). After finishing his programs of study at the University, he continued his training in the biotechnological business Moderna Therapeutics (Boston, USA) and did a research stay at the Queensland Medical research center (QIMR Berghofer). He is currently working on his doctoral thesis in Cancer Immunotherapy at the Cima University of Navarra.
Carlos remembers his university years as a very happy time: "I was very fortunate to be part of a group of colleagues with an enormous passion for science. This shared enthusiasm made learning more enriching and created a very special atmosphere. In addition, the closeness and dedication of the faculty greatly influenced my training". Dr. Ignacio Melero, researcher at Cima and Carlos' thesis director , has been a reference for his research degree program : "He has transmitted to me the passion for research, scientific rigor and the importance of always maintaining a human approach to the patient".
The National award for End of degree program of University Education is granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities as a distinction to students who have stood out for their career and academic excellence. In these calls, in addition to the academic transcript , other aspects such as stays abroad, languages or participation in research activities are taken into account. It is part of the official national awards that recognize the excellent performance and trajectory of Spanish university students.
