University and Fulbright Commission sign collaboration agreement

language The University of Navarra and the Fulbright Commission have signed a collaboration agreement whereby students from postgraduate program will be able to take the Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (MELE), part of the University's Institute of language and Spanish Culture (ILCE), with scholarships. The agreement was signed this Wednesday, 26 February, by Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, President of the University of Navarra, and Alberto López San Miguel, director executive of Fulbright Spain, in a ceremony that took place in the University's Degrees Hall.

"We look for master's degrees that attract the attention of American students, provide them with added value and that they do not find different from their system of study, and this one meets all the requirements requirements. In addition, it has a lot of American academic staff and it is a Spanish teaching postgraduate program , so we believe that it will be of great interest to our students," explained López San Miguel. He also stated that the organisation seeks to "promote cultural exchange and that the Americans who come to Spain with scholarship not only get to know Barcelona, Madrid, Seville or Valencia, but also other cities in Spain, such as Pamplona".

According to the Cervantes Institute's 2016 report , "Spanish: a living language ", more than 21 million students study Spanish as a foreign language language . language The University of Navarra's Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (MELE) trains students to teach the language in a dynamic and innovative way, with 600 hours of supervised and paid internships. In addition, students can participate in the international weeks that ILCE organises every year in the United States. Since its launch in the 2017-18 academic year, the Degree student employment rate has been 100%, in some cases thanks to the contact established with the universities and guest lecturers. 

In Spain, Fulbright scholarships have been present since 1958 and have been a tool core topic in the strengthening of relations between the United States and our country. More than 5,600 Spaniards and around 3,500 Americans have enjoyed a Fulbright scholarship granted by the Spain-US Binational Commission, co-chaired by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and the US Embassy in Madrid. Among the Spanish grantees, 6 have been awarded the award Prince of Asturias and 18 have won National Prizes in research, economics, history, literature and the plastic arts.
