Alfonso's 9 years. New president. University of Navarra
NEW PRESIDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY
On September 4, 2012, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero took office as the eighth President of the University of Navarra. Born in Salamanca 60 years ago, this Full Professor of business Informative then became the first former student to occupy the position. That day, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero made reference letter to the good inheritance he was receiving. "Our project educational is well outlined: we wish to be an academic center of international scope, in which professors and researchers strive to be at the frontier of science in their specific knowledge field; and in which a high quality teaching is taught, based on the great proposals of Christian thought: the desire to discover the truth, respect for others, openness to the transcendent destiny of man, solidarity, financial aid to those most in need."
The President Sánchez-Tabernero has often recalled the three pillars on which the University is based: clear priorities, committed professionals and excellent friends. This special report includes the main milestones that have marked his period as President.

The continuous and progressive growth of the School of Philosophy and Letters led the University to the approval of a new School of Education and Psychology, which began its journey on September 1, 2014. "The University of Navarra makes a serious and determined commitment to those degrees that contribute most to the development of people and society. Those in the areas of Education and Psychology are identified with the humanistic and service vocation of this academic center," explained then the President.
More than 44,000 students (from both Degree and Master's Degree) have passed through the University's classrooms while Alfonso has been President, which has increased the Alumni family to 179,489 members, spread all over the world. When he arrived at position, 15.72% of the students were international; today, 27.4% are. Fourteen new Degrees, five new double Degrees and fourteen new master's degrees have been launched.
One of the great milestones of the last nine years has been the inauguration in 2015 of the University of Navarra Museum. Ángel J. Gómez Montoro initiated the project, which Alfonso enthusiastically led in its final stages.
The Museum has a collection of 20,000 pieces of photography, painting and sculpture, and preserves 250,000 negatives. Since its inauguration, it has been visited by more than 690,000 people.
The other major milestone experienced with Alfonso as President was the opening of the new Campus in Madrid in 2018, a 13,000 square meter building that houses a large part of the master's degrees taught by the University; and in which, as of today, nearly 500 students study. Next to the Alumni Building, the Clinic's new headquarters in Madrid was also inaugurated.

Within the Horizon 2020 plan that the University promoted under Alfonso President, the birth of Innovation Factory stands out. The creation of this center for entrepreneurship and innovation was the starting point of a project, with a transversal design , which pursues the development of an entrepreneurial mindset within the University.
In addition, Horizon 2020 was the consolidation of Career Services. Today, the University's Careers Office is one more element in the students' experience. In Alfonso's 9 years as President, 18,070 offers of employment and 30,308 internships, both national and international, have been managed.

Almost at the same time that Alfonso started as President of the University, Tantaka, the University's solidarity time bank, was born. Its purpose was to "help those who help", as a visible expression of Christian identity, making itself available to NGOs and foundations.
Since then, Tantaka has more than 1,000 volunteers every year, who collaborate with more than 150 associations and dedicate more than 50,000 hours to social actions. In the 17/18 academic year, Tantaka-Tecnun was born, and a year later Tantaka arrived at campus in Madrid.
In these 9 years, the Tantaka Inclusion program has also emerged with the goal to increase the autonomy and integration of people with disabilities or at risk of exclusion through the improvement of their professional skills. In total, 114 people have carried out professional internships at the University within this program.

TWO COURSES MARKED BY COVID-19
The Covid-19 pandemic forced the closure of campus on March 12, 2020. This was the first time in the history of the University that this had happened.
However, the activity did not stop. In one weekend, the entire teaching was adapted to the online format so that students could finish the course in the best possible way. In the following months, 40 thesis were defended, students continued their internships, and more than 240 people, including students and employees, participated in 13 online solidarity initiatives.
With the worst of the pandemic over, students returned to campus in September 2020, thanks to Plan Prepara2.
"Cs you know, the crisis has never led us to park initiatives. And that is, in large part, thanks to all those who are part of the university community, to the association of Friends and to many generous people who lend their invaluable financial aid so that the University of Navarra is able to offer a better service to society."
