Sarali Gintsburg, researcher at group 'Public discourse' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra, has carried out a research stay at the Institute of Research and Study on the Arab and Islamic Worlds (IREMAM) of the Aix-Marseille University. There, she has deepened her programs of study on the influence of the Arab world on aspects such as oral traditions, identity, programs of study on migration or digital narratives.
"France is one of the few countries with a strong tradition of research in the Arab world," says the researcher. For this reason, Ginstburg chose IREMAM, a world-leading high school research in the areas of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Middle East and North Africa.
The researcher has worked on medieval vernacular encyclopedias with the intention of creating an anthology. Thanks to this experience, the expert has not only been able to deepen her knowledge for her work at the ICS, but has also been invited to join a group of research of IREMAM to study more texts from other Arabic vernacular encyclopedias. Apart from this partnership, she has been able to participate in several round tables of different IREMAM groups and to present her own work for discussion with her colleagues. At summary, he has managed to discover new areas of work, as well as to make himself known in new environments.
Objectives achieved
Gintsburg has collaborated with other researchers such as Mohamed Bakhouch -from the field of classical Arabic literature and director of the aforementioned project on vernacular encyclopedias- and Kamel Chachoua -an expert in anthropology and ethnology. In addition, the expert in Arabic Philology has written the chapter graduate "Between malhun and zajal: contemporary Jebli popular poetry and its survival strategies" for a volume coordinated by Chachoua to be published by the Algerian Academy of Sciences at the end of 2023.
This stay has allowed the researcher to grow personally, expanding the network of relationships with other researchers, as well as academically: "I like to devote myself to various facets of the Arab programs of study : the Philology, of course, but also anthropology, programs of study cultural, and Islamology", emphasizes Ginstburg.
