An expert in Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina visit School de Enfermería
Thanks to the 'Fulbright Specialist Program', Professor Marcia Van Riper shares her experience and research about the discipline and nursing profession.
Marcia Van Riper, nurse and professor at the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina (United States) and expert in Family Nursing and genomic health care, is currently at the School de Enfermería on a stay thanks to the 'Fulbright Specialist Program'. This program allows experts from the United States to visit Spanish universities and exchange their academic and professional experience.
As part of the program, Professor Van Riper has given several lectures, seminars and sessions at training to students at Degree and postgraduate program. Some of the topics covered have been"The impact and challenges of internship in Family Nursing" or"The experience of working with people living with a disorder Genetics and their family members".
In December, three seminars will be held for students of Degree and postgraduate program as well as for teachers, researchers and professionals of the University of Navarra, high school of research Sanitaria de Navarra, and the Navarra Health Service. Professor Van Riper is a member of the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences and chair of the Family Health Division of the School of Nursing at her university. Specifically, her research focuses on the experience of families in caring for a patient with a disorder Genetics, with special emphasis on families with Down syndrome, although she has also researched other conditions such as hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Huntington's disease and cystic fibrosis, among others.
