The Palacio del Condestable in Pamplona yesterday brought together various authorities and leaders from the health and academic fields at the inauguration of the exhibition The Art of Caringsample formed by 16 exhibition panels through which a group of students of the 3rd year of Degree in design of the University of Navarra have materialized a look from the artistic field to the profession, in partnership with the students of Nursing of the academic center.

The project was born "framed in the celebration of the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, declared by the WHO for 2020 and extended to the first part of 2021 due to the pandemic," recalled yesterday Mercedes Perez Diez del Corral, dean of the School Nursing, during the opening ceremony.

The mayor of Pamplona, Enrique Maya, emphasized the enormous relevance of the nursing profession before COVID, which has been amplified in the last year. "In Pamplona there are now more than 15,000 people affected. And one of them was myself, so I can say, from my own experience, that we have an enormous debt with the staff health", he stressed during the event.

For his part, the director of the School of Architecture, Miguel Ángel Alonso del Val, explained the similarity between two professions, that of nursing and that of the architect and designer: "while the former focuses on caring for people, the latter aspires to create the best living environment for people. And from the reflection of one on the other is born an interdisciplinary dialogue that offers a more complete and richer vision of both fields."

"The vocation of service as a point of union between care and art."

Finally, the Dean of Nursing emphasized the vocation of service as a common goal of the two professions: "The interdisciplinary work that has materialized in this exhibition always financial aid us to look further, outside the usual boundaries of our areas. In the case of Nursing, moreover, the joint work with the future experts in design has served to graphically capture concepts of this profession that are often unknown".

The project began with a survey to the nursing professionals about what concepts they considered most associated with nursing. Subsequently, they shared the results with the students of design and the students chose the words they found most evocative, which have been captured in the 16 posters that make up the exhibition.

At the opening ceremony, in addition to the mayor of Pamplona and the deans of Nursing and Architecture of the University of Navarra, also present were the president of the Official Nursing high school , Arantxa Osinaga; the director of Nursing of the Hospital Complex, Marta Ancín; the director of Nursing of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Carmen Rumeu; the director of Nursing of the Hospital San Juan de Dios, Susana Martínez; and the director of Nursing of the Clínica San Miguel, Carlos Díaz. The event was also attended by the commercial director of ACUNSA, Guillermo Catalán; the vice-president of Alumni College, Cristina Muñoz; and the director of development of Campus Home, Nicolás Iribas; all of them sponsors of the exhibition.
