300 students attend workshop on international internships organized by the University of Navarra and Caja Rural
More than 200 scholarships for stays abroad will be awarded this academic year, for which 500,000 euros will be earmarked.
The University of Navarra today held an informative workshop on international internships, which was attended by more than 300 students from all degree programs. Organized by the business of Navarra Foundation and Caja Rural, the students were able to learn about the scholarship programs that, with the financial support of the financial institution, the Foundation offers to work abroad.
Specifically, there are three programs, two of a European nature(Leonardo and Erasmus), and the Global Internships program, whose goal is to provide scholarships to students who carry out internships in countries whose official language is other than Spanish. In total, this year around 200 scholarships will be awarded for stays abroad with a total amount of more than 500,000 euros.
"These initiatives bring together three areas in which the University has been working for years: important internship opportunities for students, internationalization and the inherent goal of being a catalyst for students' concerns," explained Maria Iraburu, Vice President for Alumni.
Together with her, the president of Caja Rural, José Luis Barriendo, participated in the presentation , highlighting the importance that his institution attaches to the training of university students. Caja Rural contributes an additional 600 euros to 66 of these scholarships for international internships. The only requirement that students must meet to receive this financial aid is to be from Navarra, the Basque Country or La Rioja.
Since the 2008-09 academic year, Caja Rural has allocated 80,000 euros to promote student internships in international companies. "We are aware that mobility is becoming increasingly important, so despite the current economic status , Caja Rural is making a great effort to support these programs. We hope to be able to increase these funds in the future," concluded José Luis Barriendo.
The business Navarra Foundation, which has delegates for internships in Europe, the U.S. and China, has already awarded more than 800 scholarships that have given university students the opportunity to begin their professional degree program in cities such as Shanghai, New York, Brussels, London and Dubai.
