Prof. Ana Carvajal participates in a national congress on Critical Care
Doctors and nurses from all over Spain discussed the latest developments in the treatment and management of critically ill patients.

Ana Carvajal, professor at School of Nursing at the University of Navarra, participated in a national congress of the SEEIUC (Spanish Society of Intensive Care Nursing and Coronary Units) and the SEMICYUC (Spanish Society of Intensive Care Medicine, Critical Care and Coronary Units), held on June 9-11 in Tenerife. The event was attended by quotation physicians and nursing professionals from more than 300 intensive care units in Spain to discuss the latest developments in the treatment and management of the critically ill patient.
Ana Carvajal, a specialist at area in Palliative Care, spoke on"Nursing care in patient care at the end of life", and shared a table with Dr. Ángel Estella, who explained the"Law on dignified death in the critically ill patient"; and Carlos Centeno, who spoke on"Palliative care in the ICU".
The professor of Nursing appealed in her speech to"the need to provide specific care to the patient and his or her family in this phase of the disease". In her exhibition she presented a protocol of action that will serve all professionals who care for these people, and which has been designed by professionals from different disciplines working in the field of Palliative Care of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and the School of Nursing.
Among the action guidelines included in protocol are: establishing the diagnosis of last days status ; adapting the nursing care plan to provide comfort and reassurance; informing the patient and family appropriately; offering them financial aid spiritual; or reviewing treatment orders.
