The voting phase of the wine label contest organized by the University of Navarra and Bodega CVNE has begun. School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and the CVNE Winery, in which the first and second year students of Degree in Architecture have participated. The wine company challenged the students to elaborate a label reflecting the link between this centenary winery and art and architecture.

The five labels that have been selected by the jury and that go on to the final phase are: Rossonero by David Gómez, from Ecuador (2nd course); Esencia by Pablo Elosua, from Vizcaya (2nd); Vida eterna by Paula Sosa, from Ecuador (2nd); CUN Exión by Lierni Virto, from Navarra (1st); and Origen, fluidez y resistencia by Maite Rodríguez, from Málaga (1st). This last stage of the contest will consist of a popular vote through the School's website. The design that gets the most votes, from February 3 to 10, 2017, will be the winner of the contest and will become the image of the special edition of a wine from the winery. In addition, the winning student will receive a €1,500scholarship on the enrollment of academic year 2017/18 at School of Architecture.

The exercise is part of the subjects Analysis of Forms, 1st year, and Elements of Composition, 2nd year. It is a Vertical Workshop, in which students from both courses work. "It is an innovative model professor in which we pose the same exercise to students of two courses, so that some learn from others, also acquiring other skills such as leadership, initiative, work team, public speaking, etc., also increases their motivation to deal with a real case. This system will also be used in the new Degree at programs of study in Architecture", explains Marta García, professor who directs project.

The exercise culminated in December with the defense and grade of the proposals by the students. The Vertical Workshop professors chose 30 labels from the nearly 100 submitted to the contest. This selection will be on display in the School's hall from February 3 to 17, 2017. Moreover, the jury, composed of two members of CVNE and two teachers of the School, recently selected the five labels that went to the final, whose voting phase begins today, February 3.

As part of the creative process, the students made a visit visit to the CVNE Winery in November to learn first-hand about the history and facilities of the Company, which has a ship designed in the Eiffel studio.

Architecture and wine

"The architect has always designed and, in principle, the creative process of a wine label is the same as that of a building. The students responded very well to the exercise. In this project , in addition to the pedagogical interest, there is also a real commission from the CVNE winery, which tries to capture in a label the link that the winery has with architecture and art. In recent years the winery has hosted exhibitions of contemporary artists of great stature, such as Eduardo Chillida, Cristina Iglesias and Anthony Caro," says Marta Garcia.

This project is a reflection of the relationship that the School maintains with companies and institutions so that the projects that students carry out during their time at the University are in line with what they will find once they finish their training. At the same time, students become familiar with how to defend their projects before real clients, which facilitates the development of professional competencies that they would not otherwise develop. This style professor will be applied in the new Degree in programs of study of Architecture that the School will teach from the next course that is characterized by its international vision, the teaching by projects and all this with an important load in management.
