A total of 23 students from School Law who are studying in the pathway of high performing Honors Program are traveling to London this week to participate in the Clifford Chance International Legal Week. For seven days, the students will live an international academic experience and visit legal and political institutions in the capital of the United Kingdom.

This second ILW begins at partnership with the Instituto Cervantes located in the British capital, which will serve as the setting for the academic program and will allow students to see the links between Spanish culture and the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.

Among other topics, Clifford Chance lawyer Eduardo Hernández will stress to the young people the importance of the extra-academic training , and will also expand on some of the peculiarities of the Anglo-Saxon legal system. He will explain what a barrister is, one of the two categories of lawyers that exist in England and other countries of the Common Law tradition. Their main, but not exclusive, function is to represent litigants in court as agents.

Professor Patrick O'Malley will teach Introduction to Business Law, the part of the law devoted to the corporate governance of companies that generally operate under different legal systems. They will address the relations of business with investors, competitors and other publics, as well as the regulation of the market by the public authorities.

The students will also visit Canary Wharf, a place of expansion of the London city, named after the important maritime trade that the United Kingdom had with the strategic enclave of the Canary Islands. There they will visit the headquarters of Clifford Chance, at issue 10 Upper Bank Street, where they will enjoy various activities throughout the day: a lunch in the canteen with several trainees of the signature, a lecture on the legal market given by the lawyer Luis Belart and another on the Foundation and social responsibility at position by Cathy Jones, to finish discovering Clifford Chance's commitment to art by the hand of Jane Hindley.

signature Clifford Chance is a global international law firm with 36 offices in 26 countries and more than 3,400 lawyers in Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. It opened its first office in Spain in Madrid in 1980. Its staff in our country totals about 160 lawyers and 100 support professionals.

In the coming days, the students will visit other law firms such as Linklaters, and will attend a session at the Spanish Embassy. They will also visit the new building of the Commercial Court. In addition, they will receive classes on Corporate Law, Tax Law, Business Transactions, International Arbitration and have scheduled sessions at, among other institutions, the Royal Court of Justice, the National Gallery and the Palace of Westminster.

To end the week, students will apply the subjects taught in a Case Competition, which will present a practical case in which they will have to advise a business with presence in markets of different legal traditions.
