"The progress in research with adult stem cells allows us to foresee that, in the coming years, they will be able to replace areas damaged by disease in the brain, pancreas, heart or liver," according to Natalia López Moratalla. This professor at the University of Navarra spoke at a meeting organized by the platform Hay alternativas, which brought together in Madrid a group of scientists from all over Spain to explain the latest advances in curing diseases and restoring tissues with stem cells from adults.

Natalia López Moratalla recalled that "the latest scientific advances open the door to therapies based on research with pluripotent adult stem cells, that is, cells capable of differentiating into cells of various tissues".

The speakers explained the latest advances in research and experimentation with stem cells from adult tissues and compared them with the expectations created around embryonic cells. In addition to Natalia López Moratalla, Mónica López Barahona, professor at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria; and José Miguel Serrano Ruiz Calderón, professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, also took part in the roundtable .

The platform Hay alternativas brings together 8,215 citizens and 808 experts from 94 universities and centers of research. Its goal consists of serving the community of scientists, jurists and politicians as a platform for opinion and information in favor of development of a scientific research that does not involve the employment of human embryos, as well as promote legal reforms that reflect this position.
