The campus of the University of Navarra has been awarded for the eighth consecutive year with the international Green Flag Award, given by the institution Keep Britain Tidy for the management of parks and green spaces. The accreditation places the University campus as one of the best parks in the world for the good management of the space, as well as its conservation, maintenance and being a place for the enjoyment of all citizens, with high environmental standards.
The 2025 edition of the Green Flag Award has recognized 2,531 green spaces around the world, from the United States to Mongolia, Australia and Turkey. In Europe, 163 parks from 9 countries have obtained this accreditation : Ireland, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and Spain.
In addition to the University of Navarra, Spain includes the Quevedo Park and La Granja Park in Leon, the campus of the University of Huesca and the Senda Mediterraneum in Malaga.
The campus of the University of Navarra covers an area of nearly 113 hectares. It has a variety of shrubs and more than 5,690 trees of 173 different species, including Japanese cherry trees, ginkgos, red beeches and sequoias. In addition to offering a circular running circuit of 5 kilometers.
Last May, the University of Navarra presented a plan for the renaturalization of the campus that includes the planting of more than 800 specimens of native species.
Naturalization will be especially relevant in the areas closest to the Sadar River, where the aim is to recover the river environment and the structure of its vegetation. It is also planned to recreate in some areas the forest of the Pamplona basin, which is a shaggy oak forest; and another recreation area with another species characteristic of the most humid Navarre, the beech tree.
