Last Saturday, January 27th took place at the University of Navarra a session on "Frustration Tolerance and Sports Competition" at position of the Psychologist and professor of the School of Education and Psychology David Ramirez.

The session, which was attended by students between 12 and 18 years of age from the Dale Padel Club of Mutilva with their parents, was organized by Iñaki Apesteguia, coach of the club and student of 3rd year of Psychology at the University of Navarra.

During his speech, speaker emphasized the pillars of a good athlete, among which he highlighted a balanced mental health, a healthy lifestyle, a certain amount of optimism and high motivation. He also spoke about the danger of stress in competition and wanted to give the attendees some guidelines to reduce stress and relax before the matches.

Regarding the occurrence of frustration in sports competition, the professor mentioned that it was one of the main causes of poor performance, aggressive behavior, lack of concentration and emotional blockage suffered by many athletes.

As for parents and coaches, the psychologist also wanted to give them some important tips to help them avoid frustration during their children's sports internship ; such as, for example, being able to convey to them that not achieving the goals they had set is not always a failure, and that delaying the reward can greatly help their children to have a greater tolerance to frustration. Ramirez reminded them that aggressiveness and anger "are not part of the game but are a sample of emotional immaturity".
