Javier Aranceta Bartrina is a doctor in Medicine and Nutrition, specifically, a specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health. He is also President of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Basque Country, and has published more than 25 books and almost 500 articles on his specialization program.

For 30 years he has been a professor at the University of Navarra, teaching the subjects of Nutrition and Public Health, and Community Nutrition. Five students to whom he gave class, have been part of the academic staff of the Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics for years.

Since he was young, Javier has always been interested in the world of medicine and nutrition. Therefore, at the age of 18, he decided to study medicine at programs of study . Once he finished programs of study he wanted to specialize in nutrition. For this reason he completed a doctorate in nutrition that allowed him to dedicate himself to his vocation from that moment on.

About his beginnings at the University, it was a coincidence that he ended up teaching class here, "I started my university career in 1991. At the beginning I taught two subjects, Nutrition and Public Health, and Community Nutrition. That's how I stayed for 15 years. However, as time went by, I ended up focusing only on Community Nutrition. Both subjects were semester-long and required courses at Study program".

Javier has had many experiences and anecdotes at the University. "Without a doubt, the closeness, the good organization and the good communication with the students is what I highlight the most from these years". In general, the memory towards all the students is very good on the part of this emblematic professor. professor that he knew how to instill, in the different generations to which he was able to give class, eagerness to serve and desire to excel.

In spite of all the good times he has had, it has also been a demanding, hard experience and one to which he has had to dedicate many hours. Even so, Javier tells us that, "it has been a very rewarding experience at all levels, but also demanding. In the end, I live in Bilbao, and I had to make the trip to Navarra and back every day that I could class. Those two hours there and back are very demanding, especially when you give classes in the afternoon and many nights I had to return home with snow on the road.

Javier will no longer be teaching at the University, but that does not mean that he will stop working. He will continue to be involved in projects of different sizes, always thinking about the needs and welfare of our society.
