The University presents a project educational for the cloister of Pamplona Cathedral.

240 primary and secondary school students have participated in this initiative whose goal aim is for young people to recognize the value of preserving heritage

The refectory of the Cathedral of Pamplona hosted last Thursday, the 30th, the presentation of the Program educational "What happens in the cloister? Students of the School of Education and Psychology of the University of Navarra designed the pedagogical resources of this project, whose goal is that young people value art and culture from the educational experience through the historical heritage of a territory.

The project, carried out on the occasion of the restoration of the Gothic cloister of the Cathedral, is part of the partnership agreement signed between the Foundation for the conservation of the Historical Heritage of Navarre and the University of Navarre.

In the presentation participated Ángel Iriarte Arriazu, vice dean of the cathedral of Pamplona; Carlos Martínez Álava, director of the Historical Heritage Service of the Government of Navarra; and Carmen Urpí, director of project of research and professor of the School of Education and Psychology. Afterwards, the students who have participated in project spoke: Carmen Basanta, Alicia Encío and Leyre Abad, final year students of this School, and Mónica Ibáñez, from Master's Degree University in academic staff of ESO and high school diploma. Also, the Vice-Dean of Students, Sonia Rivas, was in charge of closing the event.

Educational workshops to preserve historical and cultural heritage

The students, who worked under the direction of teachers Ana Costa, Carmen Urpí, Ruth Breeze and Ignacio Perlado, developed on March 20th, 21st and 28th, educational workshops on the following topics educational workshops in the cloister of the cathedral of Pamplona for schools in the area. These workshops are part of the Final Project Degree of these students who were looking for specific objectives.

Through teaching, artistic, playful and participatory methodologies, the aim was to recognize the importance of preserving the historical and cultural heritage through the restoration work of the cloister and to discover professions related to them.

They also aimed to show the importance of the Cathedral of Pamplona and its cloister as enclaves within the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela; to know the musical iconography; to discover materials and artistic techniques used in the leave Age average to facilitate the knowledge of the story, etc.

This activity has been made possible thanks to the partnership of the Foundation for the Conservation of the Historical Heritage of Navarra, the Obra Social La Caixa, Fundación Caja Navarra and the Archbishopric of Pamplona and Tudela.
