IV International Symposium TriviUN. Feast, Art and Literature in borderlands Autonomous City of Ceuta, September 9-10, 2021

On 9 and 10 September 2021, the IV International Symposium will take place in the Salón de Degrees of the Campus University of Ceuta. Following the path of the three previous symposiums held in Pamplona (2016, 2017 and 2019), in September, some thirty specialists from various universities and institutions will meet at quotation in the Autonomous City of Ceuta: University of Alicante, University of Almería, University of Cádiz, Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, University of Córdoba, University of Extremadura, University of Granada (Campus of Ceuta), University of Málaga, University of Navarra, University of Sevilla, University of Valencia, UNED Ceuta, Madrid and Pamplona, Consejería de Education of the board of Andalusia, high school of programs of study Ceutíes and high school of Education Secundaria Abyla of Ceuta.

The goal will discuss the concept of frontiers (whether geographical or cultural) in the territories of Spain, Europe, America and North Africa, with special significance for the Autonomous City of Ceuta, from an interdisciplinary approach in which disciplines such as History and Geography, Archaeology, History of Art and Architecture, Philology, Literature and Theatre, Education and Social Sciences converge.

In this way, we will travel through scenarios such as Ceuta, Cadiz, Seville, the conference room of the Kings of the Alhambra in Granada, Valencia, the Transierra of Extremadura as a frontier space between the Christian and Islamic spheres, the duchies of Parma and Piacenza, the Danubian lands as a frontier over which the Ottoman armies advanced towards Vienna, the towns and presidios of Alta California, San Miguel Mexquitic as a bastion of the northern frontier of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, the Indian villages in the central region of New Granada as syncretic spaces in which cultural elements of diverse origins converge, or the Philippine islands with their capital Manila.

We will get to know in greater detail characters such as the Ceuta governor in the Philippines Pedro Manuel de Arandía, the Sevillian artist Pedro Tortolero, the Sevillian author Pedro Gobeo de Vitoria, the chaplain and almsman Cristóbal Gutiérrez de Medina, the lieutenant general of engineers Luis Huet, the precursors of photography on the African continent Enrique Facio and José Requena, the Chileans Roberto Matta and Raúl Zurita, painter and poet respectively, and the enigmatic Morayma, Sultan of Granada. 

And we will witness processes and events such as the border narrative as resource for the intercultural Education , Ceuta in Greek mythology as a didactic resource for the classrooms of Education Primary, the Sevillian obsequies of Queen Isabella of Valois, the festivities that Seville offered to Philip V and his court during the "Lustro real", the swearing in of Parma and Piacenza to Isabella of Farnese as legitimate sovereign, the Valencian festivities during the reign of Charles III, or the evangelising processes in the confines of New Spain.
