high school The Official Architects' Association of Aragon (COAA) awarded the XXVI Fernando García Mercadal Architecture Prize ( award ) to José Antonio Sacristán, professor at School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, and to the graduates Miguel Alonso, Roberto Erviti and Mamen Escorihuela. These professionals from the MRM Arquitectos studio received the award for the new headquarters and training center of the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, in Villanueva de Gállego (Zaragoza), which was inaugurated last March.

The award-winning architects received the diploma from Luis Peirote, Dean of the COAA. They were accompanied by Ángel Monge, construction manager of the developer Dragados, and Antonio Ballarín and José Valenzuela, president and vice-president of the Foundation.

The ceremony submission, held at the Expo Congress Palace, was attended by Jerónimo Blasco, Deputy Mayor of Zaragoza, as manager of the municipal company Zaragoza Vivienda, and Rogelio Silva, director general of Housing and Rehabilitation of the Government of Aragon, among other authorities.

"We have tried to adapt the pedagogical Philosophy of the Foundation itself to the design of the building, which translates into a Economics of means. It is an architecture without fanfare, calmer and more serene, which contributes to the good functioning and whose qualities are being discovered little by little" pointed out the architect Miguel Alonso.

The building consists of three large volumes arranged around a central area for administration and teaching, with three interior courtyards that provide light to the classrooms. The jury highlighted the "exact adaptation of the building" to the needs of the people who work there.

With the award Fernando García Mercadal, the COAA wants to publicly recognize the professional work of its members, while disseminating their achievements in which both their compositional aspects and those of good construction or application of environmental systems are valued.
