La secretaria nacional de Manos Unidas asegura que “el Estado, sin la ayuda social que le presta la Iglesia, estaría perdido”
The national administrative assistant of Manos Unidas assures that "the State, without the social financial aid provided by the Church, would be lost".
Ana Álvarez de Lara reminds the University of Navarra of her intention to concentrate efforts on "eradicating poverty and hunger".
The national administrative assistant of Manos Unidas, Ana Álvarez de Lara, assured at the University of Navarra that "the State, without the social financial aid provided by the Church, would be lost". This is what she said during the VIII International Symposium of high school Martín de Azpilcueta, which closes today and which has analyzed the topic "The associations of the faithful. Canonical and civil aspects".
Ana Alvarez de Lara also considered that the State does not allocate enough money "to what should be a priority, for justice and the common good". However, "the Church demonstrates every year that it is capable of multiplying what it receives in favor of the most needy".
Regarding Manos Unidas, he highlighted how this NGO, on reaching its 50th anniversary, maintains its project of "caring for the most disadvantaged, eradicating poverty and hunger, with the inspiration of the Social Doctrine of the Church". In this sense, he expressed the desire to expand its presence in "all areas of Spanish society, especially in universities, among young people and in the partnership with companies".
According to him, it is the NGO that provides the most aid in the Third World, where last year "774 projects were approved by development in 59 countries, for a value of 46,717,869 euros". This action, he explained, is focused on Education, health, agriculture, social and women's promotion.
Regarding the decrease in donations due to the crisis, the national administrative assistant of Manos Unidas spoke of a "certain withdrawal, although there are also new partners and cooperation initiatives". Likewise, referring to the administration of goods, she indicated: "We are an organization of the Church and of volunteers, where we have clear criteria of austerity and transparency, as well as 'giving for free what we receive for free'. In addition, every year we undergo an external audit".
Family, Education andlife
For Ana Álvarez de Lara, these times are "neither better nor worse. We are going through a cultural crisis, due to an anthropological crisis. In this context, NGOs tend to occupy the space of charity and generosity".
Finally, he stressed one of the intentions on which the Church insists today: the defense of the family, the Education and life. "Although the social and political climate does not facilitate the Education in faith, we must seek the best way, animated by charity and enlightened by the truth," he concluded.
