The Flipped Classroomnew book of the Full Professor of Education of the University of Navarra Javier Tourónproposes a return to a model educational centered on the student, "giving back to them what is theirs, learning, as proposed by the most classical pedagogy".

In the conventional system," says the author, "the teacher is not totally useful, what he says is carried away by the wind. Moreover, this is no longer the only source of knowledge; now students can learn in other ways. It is clear that ideas such as 'textbook', 'course' or 'level' are going to end up disappearing".

The Flipped Classroom: how to turn the school into a learning space, issue 1 in its category on Amazon, proposes, through a "peaceful revolution", a "new model educational inverted" based on personalized learning. "Countries like the USA have been applying this model for some time: there, the competencies acquired by student are evaluated and from there their pathway educational is programmed to meet their specific needs; it is accepting the obvious: each student has its own learning pace," he stresses.

The professor of the School of Education and Psychology explains how, at the end of the 19th century, a process of access to school for all began. "This achievement of modernity translated into schooling by age, as a practical organizational criterion, which means accepting that all children of the same age have the same educational needs. That's where the whole problem began.

The important thing is not to be the best in the class

To carry out this new model educational focused on teaching and personalized learning, the role of technology is crucial. "We are not talking exclusively about digital technology, although it has a lot of weight. For example, I can videotape an explanation of a statistics problem, send it to the students so they can watch it and think about it at home and spend the hour of class on the doubts that may have arisen from it".

His years of dedication to students with high abilities is what has led the University of Navarra's Full Professor to investigate and propose a change of model educational in which the interest in helping the most capable serves to optimally help everyone. "The Education achieves success when your performance lives up to your potential, not when you are the best in the class".

This new publication by Professor Tourón, written together with Raúl Santiago (University of La Rioja) and Alicia Díez (University of Navarra), in addition to having a theoretical part, offers and explains a series of tools for teachers to apply this " educational twist in their classes".

With a total of 100 tools, applications and links, The Flipped Classroom concludes with a practical study in which a group of teachers from different schools and educational levels evaluate this new pedagogical approach . "Teachers who have decided to put the student at the center of learning no longer want to go back to the old model and much less so in the case of students, who learn better and in a more personalized way."
