Luis Montuenga, new Vice President of research of the University of Navarra

He replaces José Mª Bastero at position , who was President of the academic center from 1996-2005.

The Full Professor of Cell Biology Luis Montuenga has been appointed Vice President of research of the University of Navarra in replacement of JoséMª Bastero, who was President of the academic center between 1996-2005 and Vice President of research on two occasions.

On the occasion of the replacement, President Ángel J. Gómez-Montoro wished to dedicate special thanks to José Mª Bastero for his more than fifteen years of work at Office of the Executive Council. "On my own behalf and on behalf of the entire university community, I would like to express my deep gratitude to José Mª Bastero for his excellent professional dedication and invaluable service to all the people who work and study at the University of Navarra," he said. "In particular," added Gómez-Montoro, "I wish to thank him for his willingness to remain on the Governing Body of the University team after having been President. financial aid His experience has been of great value to the new team and, of course, to me".

The person who replaces him at the head of Office of the Vice President for Research is the current director of the area of Oncology of the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra. Luis Montuenga (Barcelona, 1959) focuses his research on the biology of lung cancer and the search for new molecular tools for the diagnosis and treatment of this subject cancer.

The new Vice President has been director of programs of study of the School of Sciences and director of the department of Histology and Anatomy Pathology ofthe University of Navarra. From the School of Sciences of this University he graduated in 1981 with award Extraordinary and received his PhD in 1985. He studied a Master's Degree at the University College London and programs of study postgraduate at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London. He has also been a visiting researcher at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda (USA).

He is the author of more than 110 articles and book chapters in the area of Cell Biology and Oncology. He has lectured at numerous national and international research centers, and has been researcher principal or participant in more than 40 projects. 

José Mª Bastero, fifteen years at the Office of the Executive Council

José Mª Bastero (Bermeo, 1942) has devoted almost his entire professional career to teaching and research at the University of Navarra. Industrial Engineer, PhD in Naval Engineering and Full Professor of Mechanics, Bastero is the author of numerous researches in the field of classical mechanics and mathematical models in fracture problems of materials. Since October 2002 he is a member of the committee advisor for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education and Science.

He is Full Professor of the technical school of Engineers of the academic center, in his campus of San Sebastian, where he held different government positions. He was Vice President of research from 1992 to 1996, when he was appointed President of the University until 2005. Since then and until last year he returned to Office of the Vice President for Research.
