The prestigious University College London has awarded Oihane Mitxelena, current Ph. CEITThe prestigious University College London has awarded Oihane Mitxelena, current PhD student at the University College London, the award to the best Master's thesis project for the project entitled "Porphyrin-loaded magnetic microbubbles for targeted sonodynamic therapy".

Mitxelena, a graduate of the first graduating class in Biomedical Engineering from the School of Engineering - Tecnun, studied the Master's Degree in Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine in London. Her study was also nominated for the "Dean's Prize" or award of the Dean, awarded to the best project of all the masters. Now he continues in San Sebastian his programs of study of doctorate in Biomedical Engineering under the tutelage of researchers Maite Mujika and Sergio Arana.

His work is related to a new form of cancer therapy. Specifically, Oihane Mitxelena has developed microbubbles that will deliver the drug to the specific area affected by the tumor and release it under ultrasound treatment.

In the railroad sector

In addition, Maider Oregui, also a PhD student, has just been awarded by the International Union of Railways (known by the acronym UIC) with the 'Young Research Award 2014' (award Joven de research), for her technological contributions related to the maintenance of the tracks, extremely valuable to improve the design and detection of track-rail defects.

Oregui, an Industrial Engineer from TECNUN, received the award award in Paris during the general assembly held annually by the main railway agents, which since the last edition has awarded these prizes in recognition of the programs of study and the most outstanding advances in the railroad sector. The young researcher is finishing her doctoral thesis at the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands).
