When asked "Why fencing?" she replies, "Why other sports and not fencing?" What started as a game when she was only eleven years old thanks to the influence exerted by her brothers, who also practiced the sport, has become for Maria Garro an immersive experience in competitive sport.

She combines it with the programs of study of the 2nd year of the Degree in Management Assistance thanks to the Sports Talent Program of the University of Navarra, which offers comprehensive financial aid to students who combine programs of study university and sport at high performing and of which María is a member along with 86 other students.

She assures that the ability to concentrate that she has acquired with fencing financial aid to carry out her programs of study and that "the experience of being an athlete and at the same time a student gives her a plus to her curriculum". She trains more than 10 hours a week, which requires a lot of effort to combine it with her studies, but one of the reasons why she continues to work hard is because of the "magnificent women's competition team" that she has formed with the Navarre Fencing Club and because "just for that 'shot' of energy that sport gives you without realizing it, it's worth continuing".

Every year he participates in 4 or 5 national competitions and another 10 regional ones, between the Navarra Sports Games and the Navarra Ranking. Like every athlete, he dreams of reaching "the top", although he says that "he is satisfied" with continuing to improve little by little with work and effort, "continuing to compete at a national level and enjoying the sport" that has given him so much.

He is very grateful for the support he has always received from his family, "in sports and in staff" and confesses that one of the things he likes most is to sit together on Sundays to watch Formula 1: "We are car racing geeks".
