Pope Benedict XVI has appointed as bishop of Almaty (Kazakhstan) the Spanish priest José Luis Mumbiela Sierra, graduate of the School of Theology of the University of Navarra.
José Luis Mumbiela Sierra (Monzón, Huesca, 1969), studied theology at the University of Navarra, where he graduated in 1994. He was ordained priest on June 25, 1995 by the diocese of Lleida and has been assistant pastor in Fraga (1995-1998).
In 1997 he received his doctorate in theology from the University of Navarra and a year later, in February 1998, he was sent as a fidei donum priest to the Holy Trinity Diocese of Almaty, where he has served as assistant pastor of Shimkent.
In June 2007 he was appointed President of the seminar Mayor of Karaganda, position which he held to date.
