Miguel Sánchez Lasheras presented his doctoral thesis "Los inicios de la revisión concordataria española. The diplomatic negotiations for the agreement of 1976". The work studies the consequences of Spain's diplomatic agreements with the Holy See. Thus, its main goal are the diplomatic negotiations between the Holy See and the Spanish State, which led to the signature and ratification of the current "concordat system": the Agreements of 1976 and 1979.
His study points out that "the matters that were the subject of the negotiations are not very different from the issues that are still being debated today: secularism and laicism; the protection and limits of the right to religious freedom; the legal status of religious denominations; and the appropriate legal treatment of matters related to Education and teaching religious, marriage or the financial support of the Church".
For its elaboration, Miguel Sánchez Lasheras accessed documentary sources present in the historical file of the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, in Rome; in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Madrid; and in the file General of the University of Navarra.
Miguel Sánchez Lasheras, who received the grade of A cum laude unanimously, has been awarded the Degree European doctorate.
