The high school Higher School of Religious Sciences of the University of Navarra (ISCR) has published Introducción a la Sacred Scripture. The volume, written by the professor of the School of Theology Vicente Balaguer, is the twenty-fifth book in the collection Manuales del ISCR published by EUNSA.

Balaguer points out that the book is meant to be an explanation of the being and function of the Bible in Christianity. "For Christians, the Bible is both a word of God and a human word. This means that its understanding and interpretation cannot disregard either of the two aspects: to leave aside the first means a secularisation of its contents, reducing the revelation of God to mere religion, that is to say to a mere human dimension; to leave aside the second means abandoning oneself to a fundamentalism deprived of reason. The way to properly compose these aspects is to realise that the Bible is a book that God creates in the Church addressed to the Church", he explains.

The publication is aimed at people interested in a comprehensive, but not specialised, knowledge of the subject in question. "The book does not, therefore, answer in detail all the questions that a person interested in the Bible can ask. But neither is it a mere exhibition. Theology is argumentative; it is aware that things could also be explained in other ways. In the limited space of such a guide , the text tries to be argumentative", he says. It is of special interest to the students of the high school Superior of Religious Sciences of the University and also to those who are studying the Diploma of Biblical Theology.

Vicente Balaguer is professor of New Testament and Biblical Hermeneutics at the School of Theology at the University of Navarra. He is also a member of the committee of essay that translated and commented on the edition of the Holy Bible of the University of Navarra (1995-2005).

The 'ISCR Handbooks Collection' is addressed to parents, catechists and formators, religion teachers or professionals from different fields who feel the need to improve their scientific knowledge of the faith. The books published so far are the following: Introduction to Theology, Ethics, Mariology, Philosophy of Science, Pauline Writings, Pentateuch and Historical Books, Theological Anthropology, Synoptic Gospels and Acts of the Apostles, Mystery of God, Ecclesiology, Theology of Creation, Prophetic Books, Poetic and sapiential books, Morals of the person: the virtues, Philosophy of the person, Fundamental morals, Theology of mission statement, Christology, Introduction to the Philosophy, Joannine Writings and Catholic Letters, Philosophical Anthropology: The Human Person, Eucharist, Social Morals y Patrology.
