The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra has celebrated its 70th anniversary. 70th anniversary. More than 100 alumni gathered at the academic center to commemorate these seven decades of journey, in which almost 8,000 professionals have been trained.
The celebration began with the words of Ana Choperena, dean of the School, who thanked the effort of all the nurses who have helped the School to be what it is now and above all, to preserve the "Another way of being, Another way of doing", typical of the School.
"We are forming a great community, a spectacular community of nurses who do not lose our enthusiasm," she said. In this way, she recalled the birth of the then School of Nursing, in October 1954: "It all began with a small group of nurses, 19 students, all of them from Navarre, who 70 years ago began their programs of study as future nurses in Leyre Street, Pamplona. And thanks also to their contribution and their work, we are here today. With the maxim, with which we still live, of wanting to know more to know how to serve better".
This spirit of submission, of service and continuous improvement is what is captured through testimonial micro-stories in the book presented by Jokin Sanchez at the celebration event, also with the degree scroll Otro modo de ser/ Otro modo de hacer , in which 38 people have contributed with their personal experiences to remember those 70 years of history.
Camino Madoz, a student of the first graduating class (1957), says in her testimony: "I have many experiences present. I remember Don Juan Jiménez Vargas, with whom I worked for several years. From the first moment we were emphasized respect for the person and care centered on each patient, and on the satisfaction of work well done."
This was also recalled by professors Maribel Saracíbar, Mary Navarro and Mercedes Pérez Díez del Corral in the colloquium directed by Paz Ugalde, director of development at School. They spoke about the history of the School and emphasized that it has been the concern of the nurses, the questioning of the patient, the contact with the academic world and the constant desire to continue improving the care of others that have marked these 70 years of history.
The celebration ended with the presentation of a exhibition on the 7 decades of the School, exhibited in the corridor between the Castaños Building and the Library Services Building, as well as an aperitif in the hall of the Library Services, where the names of the 7,935 people who have studied at the School of Nursing at the University of Navarra were displayed.
