Ramón Reyes, president of the association Española contra el Cáncer, and María Iraburu, president of the University, have signed a pioneering agreement that aims to improve the experience and humanization throughout the process of diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

The association Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC) and the Cancer Center Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CCUN) have strengthened their partnership partnership with the signature of a agreement that will promote the humanization of attention to people with cancer and their families.
The agreement - signed by Ramón Reyes, president of the AECC, and María Iraburu, president of the University of Navarra - commits the two institutions to develop initiatives to improve the experience and dignity of patients and the people around them throughout the process of diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
During the presentation of agreement, José María Campo, director of mission statement and Operations of the AECC, explained that "the promotion of humanization in healthcare institutions can be achieved through the improvement of the environment, emotional, social and economic support, progress in communication and respect for the autonomy of each patient".
Along with this goal of progress in all areas of the oncology patient's life, the agreement between the AECC and the CCUN wants promote the active, effective and professional participation of people with cancer and their family environment in public institutions, hospitals and civil associations. "It is clear that specialists dedicated to the fight against cancer treat people, and people are permanently at the center of our work, but to take better care of them we need to listen more attentively to their needs and, thus, to fulfill adequately and with excellence our mission statement", detailed Dr. Antonio González, director of the CCUN.
Among other measures, the agreement will make it easier for all cancer patients treated at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and their families to access information materials and the different training activities of the AECC in order to contribute to the maximum knowledge about the disease itself, its prevention, treatments and the necessary care. The agreement includes the promotion of actions that favor the research against cancer, the other great common goal of the usual activity of the AECC and one of the characteristics of a comprehensive cancer center as the CCUN.

The Office of the Executive Council of the University of Navarra has welcomed the alliance between the AECC and the CCUN, which for the president of the association means "starting a journey together to improve the quality of life of cancer patients from a humanized perspective centered on the person, offering empathetic, comprehensive and personalized care".
For her part, the University's president , María Iraburu, emphasized that "advancing in the humanization of the care of these patients is a natural response to the Clinic's mission statement and the model care that it has provided since its beginnings. For this reason, going hand in hand with the association Española Contra el Cáncer, besides being a source of pride, reaffirms our model".
The visit of the President of the AECC at the University of Navarra concluded with a session open to all students of Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Science and Education and Psychology. During the colloquium with the students, Ramón Reyes and Dr. Javier Serrano, director of Health Care of the AECC, have addressed the major current issues surrounding the attendance and the research oncology. Accompanied by a multiple myeloma patient, who shared his experience staff with the disease among the students, Reyes has order the financial aid of the students so that the AECC can reach all the people who need it.
