The Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of the University of Navarra (ISCR) has published La iniciación cristiana. Baptism and Confirmation. The Issue, written by the professor of the School of Theology, Alfonso Berlanga, is the twenty-seventh book of the collection Manuals of the ISCR published by EUNSA.

The book has a solid biblical, patristic and celebrative basis, with a unitary approach of the sacraments of initiation: baptism is perfected by confirmation in view of the fullness of the Eucharist. Professor Berlanga points out that, as was already the case in the first centuries of Christianity, the evangelising challenge persists in welcoming those who seek the faith of the Church, or to strengthen those who persevere in it, and stresses that in the neo-pagan era in which we live, many questions that have been collected in this guide are still alive and have been faced in a special way, "because theology, as an ecclesial activity, cannot disengage from life and the world".

Some of these questions are: how to adequately prepare the catechesis for children and adults, how the missionary responsibility in Christian communities can be promote , in what order the sacraments of initiation should be administered or how to reconstruct the channels of transmission of the faith (family, parish, high school) for the new generations.

Alfonso Berlanga Gaona is Associate Professor of Liturgy and Sacraments at the University of Navarra. He holds a PhD in Theology from the Università della Santa Croce (Rome) and is a member of the association Española de Profesores de Liturgia.

The 'ISCR Handbooks Collection' is addressed to parents, catechists and trainers, teachers of religion or professionals from different fields who feel the need to improve their scientific knowledge faith.
