Experts highlight the role of parents and teachers in the controlled use of new technologies by young people

The University of Navarra has inaugurated the XXXVIII seminar of Educational Centers, under the degree scroll "New forms of communication and interactive generations: impact educational". goal In the meeting , several experts from the world of Education, law, psychology and communication will take part with the aim of "studying from different points of view how to educate the new net generation", according to Maica Gonzalez, professor at department of Education and organizer of the event.

In today's workshop the speakers described the current status situation faced by parents and teachers with respect to this topic. In this sense, they emphasized that today's young people are "digital natives, because they have been using new technologies since they were born, but they are not aware of the risks of their incorrect use".

Charo Sádaba presented some of the programs of study of the Foro Generaciones Interactivas, a non-profit organization founded in December 2008 by Telefónica, University of Navarra and Organización Universitaria Interamericana (OUI). She also spoke about the correct use of new technologies and stressed the importance of parental and teacher involvement in this area.

Setting access time and content guidelines

Arturo Canalda, Children's Ombudsman of the Community of Madrid, emphasized the importance of involving parents and a commitment from everyone to take advantage of the benefits of new technologies: "It is not a question of prohibiting their use, but of controlling access, regulating the time and content that is viewed".

He said that children spend a lot of time alone in front of screens and adults should be trained to know how to help young people in the use of new technologies. "The Education in values is also valid in the virtual world and it is necessary to exercise parental authority in this area," he said.
