Professor Brian Leftow led two seminars of the Cluster Group on Analytic Theology.
On March 2 and 3 the University of Navarra received visit from Professor Brian Leftow (Oriel College, Oxford), in the framework of the activities of the Cluster Group on Analytic Theology: Philosophical and Theological Perspectives on Divine Providence, of the Schools de Philosophy and Lettersand of the Ecclesiastic of Philosophy.
Professor Leftow gave two lectures. In the first, open to the general public and entitled 'Providence, Determinism and Hell', he showed the incompatibility between theological determinism (more specifically, in its Molinist version) and an orthodox view of hell.
In the second, addressed to the members of project and entitled 'Love, Liking and Election', he presented a distinction between love ('love') and preference ('liking'), and argued the thesis that although God loves all men equally with a love staff, He chooses some for a special mission statement (as in the case of Abraham), based solely on their personal preferences. In both cases the exhibition was followed by a long and intense discussion by those present.
Additionally, during the second day of his visit, Brian Leftow gave an interview in which he spoke about the importance and timeliness of philosophical theology and commented on some central aspects of his work at area. The video will soon be available at available on the website of the Cluster Group.
