Experts from six countries debate at the University of Navarra on current issues surrounding the priesthood

The XXVI Course of update at Canon Law will address topics such as training, celibacy, clergy sustenance, and obedience and freedom.

Experts from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Colombia, Chile and France will discuss current issues surrounding the priesthood on November 10, 11 and 12, at the XXVI Course of update at Canon Law of the University of Navarra. The program is held under the degree scroll "Current Issues on Sacred Ministers".

"The conclusion of the Year for Priests, convoked at the time by Benedict XVI and which has result been so fruitful, offers a good opportunity to return to some fundamental points of the life and ministry of the clergy," said the professor of the School of Canon Law José Bernal, president of the organizing committee .

Among the speakers are Ángel Marzoa, President of the Diocesan seminar of Tui-Vigo, who will speak on "training of the candidates to the priesthood and discernment of their suitability", and the professors of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Rome) Luis Navarro and Davide Citto, who will speak respectively on "The ministerial status and staff of the permanent deacon" and "The loss of the clerical state 'ex officio' in the current pastoral urgencies".

On the other hand, professors from the School of Canon Law of the University of Navarra, Tomás Rincón, Javier Otaduy, José Antonio Fuentes, Enrique de la Lama, Emilio Forte, Diego Zalbidea and the Dean, Jorge Miras; and José Ramón Villar, professor of the School of Theology, will intervene. Among other topics, they will address the training of candidates to the priesthood, celibacy, the support of the clergy, and the areas of obedience and freedom.
