The Friends of the Museo del Prado Foundation and the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra have organized, for the third consecutive year, the lecture series of the Prado Museum. quotation Nearly two hundred people attended the first session of the cycle, which will address fantasy as an essential element of the art of Bosch, Goya or the artists of the Golden Age, without forgetting the cinematographic experience.

The opening ceremony, held at the Museo Universidad de Navarra, was presided over by Rosalía Baena, dean of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra; Alberto Pancorbo, manager of department of Activities of the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado; Jaime García del Barrio, director general of the Museo Universidad de Navarra; and José Antonio Canales, director general of Viscofan, the sponsoring entity. All of them had words of remembrance and gratitude to Francisco Calvo Serraller, promoter and director of the cycle, who recently passed away.

Isidro G. Bango, Full Professor of Art History at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, gave the first session of the course, in which he delved into the work of Bosch. He pointed out that the painter "has generated more visitors issue than any other exhibition at the Prado throughout its history", in accordance with the recognition he received during his lifetime. The reason the expert alluded to is that "we want to see things in his works that even he was not aware of".

In this sense, he assured that in his time Bosch's work was not a fantasy, but pure reality: "We are the ones who have reinterpreted it, because we do not know the keys in which it moves. It is our imagination that generates great fantasies before what we contemplate". Likewise, he affirmed that "the themes, scenes and people he develops are nothing new, as there were very similar representations in previous times. However, we insist on looking for complications in his works," he added.

On the other hand, the expert explained that in the painter's work there is a deep humanism: "Bosch is capable of transcending the body and transmitting a state of mind. He was a pious man and respectful of the faith".

"Goya: the flight of the phantasmagoric".

The next session of the series will take place on Wednesday, January 16, at 7 p.m., at the Museo Universidad de Navarra. It will be given by Manuela Mena, Head of Conservation of 18th Century Painting and Goya at the Prado Museum, and will be entitled"Goya: the flight of the phantasmagoric" at degree scroll .

This course, which has the sponsorship of Viscofan and the partnership of the Fundación Diario de Navarra and the Museo Universidad de Navarra, is part of the existing relationship between the School of Philosophy y Letras and the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado, through student internships, activities developed by professors and other collaborations.
