Fundación ONCE and the University of Navarra sign an agreement agreement to promote and facilitate access to higher education for people with disabilities training

The University of Navarra and Fundación ONCE have signed a partnership agreement by which both entities commit to promote and facilitate the access of people with disabilities to culture and knowledge. "The phrase core topic is: more inclusion to be more excellent," stated Alberto Durán, executive vice president of Fundación ONCE.

"People with disabilities must be participants in the design of their integration into society," said. For this reason, he stressed the importance of facilitating their access to the university, because "if they have not drunk inclusion, they will not create it". And he added: "we are closer, but we need to increase by two the employment rate and by three the inclusion of people with disabilities in the university; since only 8% of people with disabilities have a university degree scroll ".

The agreement, signed by the President of the University, Ángel J. Gómez- Montoro and the Executive Vice President of Fundación ONCE, Alberto Durán, establishes a general framework of partnership between Fundación ONCE and the University of Navarra; which will serve to implement joint projects and actions that contribute to the development and dissemination of universal accessibility, the design for all and the labor and social integration of people with disabilities.

Both entities will collaborate in the realization of programs of study to know and analyze the access needs of people with disabilities to the products and services provided by the University of Navarra. In this sense, they will work together in the analysis of the adequacy of architectural barriers, teaching materials, access to the web page and interrelation professor-student with disabilities.

The agreement also promotes the development of training activities for people with disabilities within the programs developed by the University of Navarra. In this regard, a second, more specific agreement has agreed to establish the conditions under which the ONCE Foundation will collaborate with the " Alumni Scholarships University of Navarra Program". Through it, it will grant the "scholarship Alumni University of Navarra With the partnership of the ONCE Foundation", which in the 2012-2013 academic year, will grant an economic endowment worth a maximum of 15,000 euros. The scholarship will be used to finance the costs of training and accommodation of the disabled students selected in accordance with the procedure provided for in the Regulations of the Scholarship Program.

"If there is a brake on employment there will be a brake on everything else. Disability is an invisible problem, because the disabled person who does not have work stays at home. But it exists," said Durán. In this sense, ONCE Foundation, through its business specialized in the training and search for employment for people with disabilities, FSC Inserta, is committed through this agreement to provide advice and specialized service to meet the requests for workers with disabilities made by the University of Navarra. Likewise, the educational institution will incorporate people with disabilities to its staff, as the need to hire new workers arises.

Finally, Fundación ONCE and the University of Navarra will collaborate to spread an integrating message about people with disabilities in society. To this end, they propose promote to raise awareness among professors, students and employers as a channel to achieve the full social normalization of this group.
