Álvaro Santos, student of Biochemistry from the University of Navarra, has been one of the beneficiaries of the 40 grants awarded by the association Española Contra el Cáncer to university students from all over Spain. The students who receive the scholarship do an internship in a laboratory with the goal to have a first contact with the biomedical research .

In the case of Álvaro Santos, the financial aid of 1,000 euros will allow him to continue his training during the months of July, August and September at the high school of research Sanitaria Biodonostia, where he will collaborate in a project on cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the biliary tract).

The student acknowledges that it was a surprise to be granted the scholarship, given the existing skill : it counted the curriculum and the transcript, they also requested a letter of reference of some professor of the university and one of acceptance of the receiving center, in the case of having it. "The letters were written for me by Dean of Sciences and Dr. Jesús María Bañales. The latter was the one who gave me the opportunity to participate in the project of research of the San Sebastian center and encouraged me to apply for the scholarship".

Students from second cycle of the health sciences branch with more than 150 credits approved, in the case of being under the Bologna plan, could apply for these grants.
