"The Spanish pharmacy model guarantees the accessibility of the service throughout the State."

The administrative assistant General of Health and Consumer Affairs stressed at the University of Navarra that Pharmacy is one of the most important sectors of the health system.

"The Spanish pharmacy model guarantees the accessibility of pharmaceutical services, under equal conditions, throughout Spain". In this sense, "today more than ever our commitment to a professional and sustainable pharmacy is necessary". administrative assistant Pilar Farjas, General Director of Health and Consumer Affairs, defended the health reform undertaken by her ministry at the workshop "Pharmacists of the 21st century" organized by students at the University of Navarra, where she stressed that pharmacy is one of the most important sectors in the health system.

Pilar Farjas indicated that the Ministry has been working for years side by side with all healthcare professional groups, and stressed that in the pharmaceutical profession the professional profile has prevailed over all other interests. "Pharmacy is born with the responsibility of guaranteeing quality patient care. Even in these difficult times, we must highlight its capacity for initiative and its will to prevent the deterioration of this attendance".

Regarding the model concerts, he stressed their great potential because "they not only establish the rules of the economic game, but also that of professionalism, since they establish the perfect legal framework ", and as for the implementation of electronic prescriptions, he pointed out that"they are revolutionizing the community pharmacy service and the hospital pharmacy service. As of today, it already represents 66% of all prescriptions". And he added "the important thing now is to unify this system, as well as the dispensing models and remuneration systems throughout the territory".

An encouraging future for the profession

Along with the general administrative assistant , the director of Communication and Institutional Relations of Teva Spain, Rafael Borras , stressed the importance of a good training and motivation of the pharmaceutical professional:"the crisis is a time to innovate, to be creative," he encouraged students and future professionals. For her part, Ana Aliaga, administrative assistant General del committee General de Colegios Oficiales de Farmacéuticos, emphasized the sustainability of the system and the commitment to healthcare pharmacy "not only for dispensing drugs".

Finally, Vicente J. Baixauli, Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Community Pharmacy (SEFAC) focused on the challenges that the pharmaceutical profession must address. Among them he pointed out: structural problems, legislation; the professional development ; and, finally, the remuneration system.

In the first part of the workshop some of the most significant data on the current status of the National Health System were presented and solutions were proposed by the professionals Miguel Angel Martos, from department Health Sciences of Ernst & Young Spain; Ruth Puig-Peiró, researcher at research center in Economics and Health; and Alma Palau, president of committee General General of Official Colleges of Dietitians-Nutritionists.

In the afternoon, there was a roundtable on the new challenges facing the professional dietitian-nutritionist.

This extracurricular activity, which has the partnership of the Entrepreneurs Club of the University of Navarra, was closed by the Minister of Health Marta Vera and the Vice President of International Office of the University of Navarra Pilar Lostao.
